In the year 1962, at the outset of the Second Vatican Council, Pope John XXIII, prayed and desired for a renewal to come about in the Catholic Church, in the words, "… Open the windows and let in fresh air… renew Your wonders Lord in this our day as by a new pentecost."

Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church that seeks to foster an awareness of the gift of God’s Spirit and to help people develop a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Konkani Catholic Charismatic Renewal operates in the Archdiocese of Bombay under the guidance of the Bombay Service Council through 33 prayer groups, along with a number of associated ministries and services.
